What is Aflac Accident Insurance?

Just because an accident can change your health, doesn’t mean it should change your lifestyle too.

Nobody plans to be in an accident, but when it happens, Aflac’s Group Accident insurance is there to help.  The Group Accident plan pays benefits that can be used toward medical expenses that major medical insurance was never intended to help with; everyday bills, rent, mortgages, utilities and groceries.

Aflac accident insurance pays benefits for injuries that happen both on and off the job.  Below are a few examples of accidental injuries we file claims for daily: 

  • Work-related injuries
  • Motorcycle or car accidents
  • Sports related injuries
  • Slip and falls

Accidents can happen in an instant affecting you or a loved one. Aflac is designed to help families plan for the health care bumps ahead and take some of the uncertainty and financial insecurity out of getting better. 

What is New?

This year, SDPEBA was able to negotiate new plan designs with enhanced benefits and lower premiums. Here is what is new with the FY20 Group Aflac Accident plan:

Group Accident plan changes:

  • Two options; High and Low
    • Higher Option: More benefits and larger payouts. As low as $9/pp.
    • Lower Option: Most affordable plan as low as $5/pp.
  • Enhanced Benefits
    • Coverage no longer terminated due to attained age of 70.
    • Added more available visits per claim.
    • Added X-ray and MRI benefits
    • New Chiropractor Benefits
    • New Prescription Benefits
    • Added Organized Sports Activity Benefits *high option only.
    • Timeframe required to seek treatment increased from 3 to 7 days.

Do I need to re-enroll to get the new plans and rates?

Yes, all employees who previously enrolled in the Aflac Accident plan will need to re-enroll in order to take advantage of the new plans and lower costs. If you do not re-enroll you will keep the plans you previously had. They are not automatically changed to the new plan options.

How to enroll:

You must be an active City of San Diego employee to enroll in Aflac.

The deadline to enroll in Aflac is June 30th, 2019. SDPEBA Aflac specialists are available to assist you until 5pm on June 28th, 2019.
